Captain Grenfell VC's grave with Sapper Everett's grave behind.
Sapper Everett’s great friend,Cecil Lancaster, told the following story of his death:
“We were moving up the line and he was standing by a horse patting him when a great heavy shell came over and blew the horse and him to pieces. We picked up what we could and buried him quick, because we had tomove on.We had a sign writer in our company and he put up some posts with some chain around and he made a cross with his name on it.But we had to take it all down – because it was near the grave of Captain Grenfell VC,and his grave was more elaborate than the captain’s grave. He wa s lovely boy and very popular with everyone. He used to sing and whistle and entertain us in his own little way.He was a lovely boy!!!…..”
George Everett is buried in Vlamertinghe Military Cemetery, still one row apart from Captain Grenfell VC
